CROSS AGE PEER TUTORING
CROSS AGE PEER TUTORING
Planning Form:
Evidence (Evaluation Forms) :
Every wednesday morning I partake in cross age peer tutoring. This means that I spend 20-30 minutes in the morning assisting a younger student complete any homework/assignments and answering any of their queries. After each session with the girls I have to complete a C.T.P tutor evaluation form. I have uploaded the C.T.P tutor evaluation forms below:

Reflection:
Throughout this year I have participated in cross age peer tutoring, which involves
tutoring younger students with any homework or assignment queries. This
activity has been an excellent way for me to showcase my commitment skills as I
attend cross age peer tutoring on a weekly basis, every Wednesday morning.
In my opinion, cross age peer tutoring has been an extremely
rewarding, challenging and enlightening experience as it has allowed me to
develop new skills and improve already existing ones. This includes teamwork
skills, communication skills, teaching skills and social skills. For example, tutoring
has allowed me to work collaboratively with younger students to identify their
areas of difficulty. In addition, this
assisted me with developing my teamwork skills.
At times I have found tutoring enormously challenging, as I
have had to develop new teaching skills and techniques to explain the solution
to the younger students in a simple coherent manner. Additionally, tutoring was quite challenging for me, as I had no previous experience. This meant that I had to quickly develop new tutoring skills and to learn to be patient with younger students.
This activity has been tremendously beneficial, as it has
allowed me to understand my own strengths and weaknesses. Prior to doing this activity, I had a lower
tolerance for explaining subject matter continuously. However I have found that my tolerance and
patience towards other students has greatly increased since partaking in this
activity.
Overall, I have found tutoring an immensely satisfying and
rewarding experience as I have discovered I enjoy sharing my knowledge and
ensuring younger students have a greater appreciation and understanding of
their schoolwork. In addition, tutoring
has also taught me to appreciate my teachers. It is only since I have begun
tutoring that I fully comprehend the constant challenges that teaching staff
encounters on a daily basis. I have also
discovered by participating in this activity, that my knowledge of my subjects
has also greatly improved.

Reflection:
On Saturday 24th May, 2014 I participated in the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal. I found this experience both rewarding and challenging. It was challenging as I had to step out of my comfort zone and face my fear of talking to strangers since, I had to communicate with people I didn't know in order to collect donations. However, I persevered with the task and successfully raised over $300 to go towards charity.
I also found that The Red Shield Appeal was a great opportunity for me to further develop my team work skills because we had to work in small teams with a common goal of raising money for disadvantaged Australians. My partner and I allocated each other tasks to ensure the process of money collection was smooth and efficient. For example, my partner would write donor receipts whilst I would knock on the strangers' doors requesting a donation.
Moreover, I had to consider the ethical implications of my actions at many times during this activity. For example, whenever I came across a house, which said "no sales people please." I could either ignore the warning and knock on the door or adhere to the resident's wishes. I chose to act ethically and abide by the signs.
Furthermore, participating in The Red Shield Appeal was a very rewarding experience for me personally because it allowed me to engage with an issue of global importance, as funds raised were going to be used to assist Australians facing problems such as poverty and addiction. I also found this experience to be rewarding as my actions made a positive contribution on troubled Australians.
